Madawaska Council to go on Road Trip

WILNO.........Cottage country studies wind power
Madawaska Valley Councillors will go on “a tour” to investigate how wind turbine operations affect communities.

A controversy is flaring in the area over proposals to erect several wind turbine farms. One of the proposals would see six of the massive turbines built in the hills outside Wilno, Ont. and it has spawned a well-organized opposition movement called SOS, or Save Our Skyline.

Mayor John Hildebrandt, who has spoken in support of wind power, said the tour would likely take place in the third week of September.

One question that should be asked here before this trip commences is "who will host the MV Council" on this road trip? If the answer is SkyPower or CANWEA then one may suggest that fairly "biased" destination could be planned. On the other hand if Council took it on themselves to "strike out on their own" to any number of fellow Townships that already have these Wind Turbines in their community without the presence of "proponents" then they may come away with an accurate and fairly "unbiased" experience. One way in which to "find" these various Townships would be to read the many articles on various websites that give reports on problems associated with these industrial developments. A good starting point be http://mvwind.10.forumer.com/

If MV Council goes on this "road trip" on behalf of CANWEA or SKYPOWER who are the Wind Company "advocates" then the following "may" happen:

"I'll tell you a story about when our local Council went on their little tour with CanWEA.

First of all, one of our members is a reporter for a small town paper and was writing articles questioning the whole wind business. He requested to be included on the bus so he could do an article. He was given permission by the wind company but, at the last minute, kicked him off, saying he is not welcome.

Anyway, our niave Councilors went on their little excursion to Port Burwell. The old trick about standing right underneath and not hearing a thing is common practice. It is the way sound travels. The low frequency sounds are hard to hear right up close, but go back a few 100 meters and you sure can hear it. Kind of like how you don't hear the planes at the airport that much, but 6 blocks away you sure can hear them take off and land.

So anyway, our Council went up and the turbines (of course) were turning like crazy and not making a sound. Why? My husband is convinced they disengage the clutch during important visits. It would be very easy to do, resulting in turbines spinning merrily and no noise (and also no electricity being generated). So, we pinpointed the exact time our Councilors visited the turbines and compared it to the actual output data at http://www.sygration.com/gendata/today.html

Well, wouldn't you know it! At that time those turbines were not producing ANY electricity....yet they were spinning like crazy for the visitors?? That would only make sense if the clutch was disengaged. The wind industry never fails to shock me anymore.

We brought this to the attention of our Council but of course, they brushed us aside, refusing to believe they could be duped."

This is a story from a previous "visitor" who got to go on a "fact finding mission" hosted by CANWEA who is the "Alliance" representing Wind Power Companies

They should come up to see the "Progress" in the Municipality of Kincardine north of Tiverton. It is truly an unsettling sight.

It is almost a total waste of time for your councillors to take a day trip to visit wind farms and expect to get a reasonable idea of what they are like.To get a true experience they will have to take their tents and camp in the middle of the wind farm close to them for at least a week.
Even this will probably not be enough time for them to experience the true torturous conditions the local people endure . Weather, wind speed and height, time of day (noiser at night),time of year, landscape etc all play apart in noise levels at any given time. Plus the fact that most of the time they are generating very little power so less noise -there are so many variables involved. Surely to goodness there is enough creditable information out there now - can't these councillors read and do due dilligence.

Yes undoubtedly, in some moments I can bruit about that I agree with you, but you may be inasmuch as other options.
